The ability to determine whether a particular note is "correct" or not. For instance, I can tune a guitar by ear, meaning that I can tell whether each (open) string is at the right pitch.

I don't have formal training, so I can't necessarily name a note, but I can tell whether a note that is played is out of tune. Sometimes they literally hurt my ears . . .

Can you sing tones corresponding to musical notes if you are given the letter name of the note?

Please explain
I have a reasonably good ear for language . . . For instance, I was on a six-week project in Taipei a few years back, and by the time I finished, I was able to carry on a very simple conversation in Mandarin. I have very good night vision.
